Belial's BroadheadI made a spear out of another heavy duty scraper. The head came out resembling a big broadhead type arrow head. The specs: Overall Length: 68 & 1/8" Head Length: 14" Sharpened Edges: 8 & 7/8" each Weight: 3 lbs, 5 oz Point of Balance: 9 & 1/2" from bottom edge of socket

Nice spear, not o be too picky but that's really nothing like a true bodkin point, more like a proper hunting broad head. Either way its very nice and its pretty much what I'm going to do with mine when they get here :-) have you tried it on anything yet ?

Could kill a dragon with that thing! A 'black arrow' from Tolkien's The Hobbit! Now you need a bow to shoot it with! :D

Something davinci would make Don't give me any funny ideas... bigpete, when turned around (opposite of the pic) with the "hump" for the pole, it reminded me a bit of a bodkin. Made for a cool name, but I'll call it Belial's Broadhead. Haven't tried it out yet... @blackthorn, I was thinking the same thing, it does look a bit like a black arrow! Thanks Bryan, lol

Nice. On a CS spear that I have I sprayed the exposed end of the haft behind the blade with matte black paint and thought it to be an improvement.

I might look for one of these scrapers. I imagine they would be stocked where I am, in the winter away. How do these blades hold up to heavier targets?

I might look for one of these scrapers. I imagine they would be stocked where I am, in the winter away. How do these blades hold up to heavier targets? Should do fine. The steel is very hard, and one cut I made that was too close shaved a one-inch corner off of my cutting stand, a wooden 4x4. Didn't damage the edge a bit. The new king of improvised weapons. Haha, you honor me sir.

I posted some new pics of the spear in my collection thread, and as a result received an inquiry about the process to make it. Again, this was made out of a $15 forged scraper from Home Depot. The process: First, I used painter's tape to mark off the desired shape of the head: Next, my safety inspector had to make sure everything was in order: I used a pneumatic cutoff wheel to remove the majority of the material. This was done slowly as to avoid overheating, and I left a good amount of excess material just in case: To establish the bevels, I used Norton Blaze Ceramic belts in 60 and 120 grits. I finished the edges with my usual sequence of 3M Trizact Gator belts in 180, 240, 400 and 600 grits, followed by a 1200 grit Norton Norax, and finally a leather belt dressed with green compound.

Thank you for sharing the process. You look nothing like your avatar--I am a little disappointed. But then again, I don't look anything like my avatar either.

What was the final weight on the spear head? Or did I miss it?
