Guys, Help me out here. I have a friends Duke that's loose in the scabbard. Can you point me at how to shim the scabbard as easily as possible? I'd like to avoid damaging it if I can. I'm giving the sword a restoration job, but this part...well, I'm new to.
Thanks!

If the leather coming off does concern you, you can simply apply a layer of epoxy glue (no leather) around the inside of the mouth, to achieve your fit, if you go too tight you can just abrade it back a little. If it's too loose just add another layer of epoxy.

Specifically, what glue should I use? Or does it really matter?

I would use a good wood glue, or a good 2 part epoxy, or a good contact cement

I'd recommend to Never use Titebond 3 (green) near a scabbard - it's acidic and will mark the blade. Titebond original (Red) is good stuff and I use it for much of my leather and scabbard gluing needs. Epoxy is always fine around steel, and can be used without leather for your needs, as I describe above. Superglue may mark blades too.
