I was wondering if any of my fellow forumites know any resources for aftermarket saya? I've got a few Kat's that could benefit from some better fitted saya. I was doing routine maintenance and noticed that my old Valiant Armoury 1601 Katana has a super nice, very slim almond shaped saya. The VA saya is about 1/2 the thickness of the cheness mokko ko-kat saya that its paired up with. So at this point i realized that most of the other saya on my blades are the same old standard fat, weightless glossy crap that comes with every flea market blade ever made. I was hoping some of you might be able to suggest a vendor that deals in higher quality saya. I realize the somewhat piece specific nature of the saya to the sword, but most of my blades fall within the typical norms of sori, width etc. I'm also aware that i might have to go custom or make my own, but was hoping someone could point me somewhere besides ebay. I've already looked at the saya blanks from nihozashi, and wo uld prefer to spend a few bucks on a decent replacement as opposed to getting all anal and wasting time making one for a blade not worth that much time. Thanks in advance for any suggestions you guys may offer.

Aside from picking up a replacement from Hanwei (incredibly limited selection for replacements), or from Cheness (known for being 'fat'), I came across ZhiSword's sister site: www.buyiaito.com/en/31-replacement-sayaSome look pretty promising.

I know you said not ebay but the rosewood saya upgrade option offered by many ebay sellers is usually a better quality saya. You could ask about buying one of those maybe.

Thanks guys, i just ran across buyiato last night myself. I also noticed artsfeng has a natural unfinished saya option as well. I'll probably give the artsfeng saya a try for he blade i originally started this thread for, but have recently acquired a DF Daimyo with a 1.5" blade that appears to be much too big for any that we've discussed. I reached out to Dynasty forge to see about a new one, but based on the original, I'm thinking their sayas pretty much suck. I might just have to channel my inner carpenter and go "full on Peroni" and make my own. :)
