Ugh...was opening a case of anti-freeze at work today, hand slipped, sliced my leg with the boxcutter. Took three stitches.
Funny thing is, I'm in my third year of my little sharpening service, done a ton of knives and never got bitten by one. Definition of ironic...

We tend to be less careful with smaller "utility knives" and the like; what harm can they really do, right? We've got big, scary swords and totally know how to deal with sharp edg--OW F**K G*D D**N IT MY LEG S**T I mean, uh...what was I saying? I use a pretty fancy cutter at work, a Easy Cut 2000 or some such. (See here: www.safecutters.com/product/easy-cut-2000-sc-9701/ ) Tiny blade, less than 1/2" at its greatest length (has three settings) and is a squeeze-lever operation. Dandy little doodad, but not "approved" where I work. No, these are so much safer: www.sz-wholesale.com/p/Metal-Box-Cutter/Metal-box-cutter-542684.htmlExcept when they fall apart in your hand, or pocket. Either way.

Dang! Sounds like you did a number on yourself. Now that the boxcutter has drawn first blood, it will forever crave the red mist. Best to lock it away for safe keeping.
Here's to a speedy recovery!

This was a very small box-cutter too, a cheap little snap-blade. We give them out to the mechanics in the shop all day. This is how far out the blade was extended, but luckily with my bird-legs, my pants fit a little loose, so it only went 1 to 2mm deep? All was forgotten when I got home however, as a package from Bryan Heff awaited me; but that is another story...

Always cut away from your body, the first rule of safety when using knives! I did...where I screwed up, was after I cut one side of the box. It was on a pallet a little below waist level, and after I cut one side, I spun the box---with the knife still in hand. I grazed my leg as I was spinning the box...
