Hello, Im wondering if this is something that can be found at hardware stores. It is soft aliminum like metal on my Tinker bastard. And as cafefull as I am to preserve and not overtighten, it has worn the hex shape to where the key slips when I feel it should take a snug more to be safe and tight.

Look for a "screw post", "binding post" or "sex bolt". Something like this. I don't know the size for the H/T, but atrims use 1/4"-20 (screw threading). I don't think they make posts that use a hex key to tighten.

You could cut a slot across the hex with a dremel wheel and use a screwdriver

Agreed. If you have the old nut and its worn out on the edges....Chris's suggestion should work like a charm.

A HEX bolt, not a sex bolt .
No, a sex bolt is correct. I know its not the most valid source but c'monHeh, "chicago screw" is another name.

I'll be damned - you're right (googled it). I've NEVER heard anyone use that term in my 63 years. Well, I've heard "chicago screw" before ...but not in this context ;)

Sex bolt. I like that. A big Thanks to all. I'll slot it for now, but that Darkwood armory piece looks like its the ticket to ride. You folks are terrific.

I called Hanwei up and told them my issue with the hex almost striping and they sent me a new one for free. Not sure if they're doing that anymore.

They might want to look into another supplier for the hex nuts, I keep hearing about them wearing out and mine is doing that, too. But then, almost all modern screws seem to be too soft, for some reason... and it actually is modern stuff that sucks, for once: every time I dismantle something older than myself that's when I find screws that actually last more than one tightening. No idea why everyone's switched to crappy soft metal in the last few decades. (He said screw, hur hur hur. What are you people, too young to know Beavis and Butthead? )
