Is anyone interested in a collaborative writing story arc ? that is where you have a theme and a cast of characters, each one gets to write their own character, somewhat like a soap opera crossed with AD&D, the end result can often lead to a novel or short story.

How much dedication is needed? Sounds fun as long as I don't have to spend hours a day doing it.

"The Dane drew his sword and held it high in the air" blah. blah etc for half a page, "Joop seeing the shiny blade uttered a "gulp" and headed for the market square as fast as his young legs could take him. - end

So I guess at that point I would I would be like "Mikeeman, knowing the Dane's sword was of low quality, scoffed at Joop for running."
I'm not real sure how this works, but it sounds fun.

Ok, here is how it works, there will be a thread for discussion between all participants, (this one) the story thread however must be in character, you cannot act for another character, nor speak for them, nor affect the other character without permission.
The story begins as a semi-fantasy in the high middle ages in an as yet un-named country, beginning characters need to outline themselves so the readers understand.
I will write the first paragraph to start, see the thread called "the story"

Just think of what your character/s will be and write, as your see from the first part of the story we have two characters in my post, Dal the hunter and his son Aden, we have a village as yet without a description except for the blacksmiths reference.

oops, it would appear that i jumped the gun slightly, as i've already contributed without first reading this thread. I dont think i did any damage, and looks like i followed the rules well enough, but if my entry is any way detrimental to the idea, feel free to delete it.

This was a nice surprise this morning, and i knew where it was going as soon as i saw it. The hard part, especially when every new participant needs to bring a character, is integrating them into the story seamlessy. So with that, i'll allow the next participant to add the content of Danaar's discussion so that they might have an easier time introducing their character if necessary.

Is good! - note I have cut part as you direct another character vis. "Dal, knowing this friend for ages, and having fought back to back on many too many occasions, knew that something was not right, and in an effort not to dampen the boys good spirits, Dal suggested that Adan take the prized goose and begin preparations for a grand meal with their friend and visitor. The boy trotted off to the house with thoughts of fresh goose with sweet sauce, potatoes and gravy, fresh meadow herbs, and maybe, just maybe his father will allow him to have a pull from the wineskin reserved for special occasions such as this. With that, and" I will add it in in my next post - so if you want another character to do or say something just pop it in here first

I'm hanging back till all are on board and everyone knows how this works, remember if you just want to be a character from time to time you can be the cook at the Inn, an old spinster on her porch, a rheumy eyed drunk by the Inn or what ever bit character you feel fits in. In the early stages go slow, the first page or three usually introduces characters, time period and location, the plot tends wander a bit, directions will firm up a time goes on. Above all things use your imagination and have a good time

Hey, is this a jump in or out as you have time kind of thing? Or do you guys have it set up pretty solidly, seems like fun.

I'll join in the fun today. I already have 2 characters planned, well I had ideas for many more but I chose 2. What will the semi-fantasy setting include? Do we have for example orcs, dragons, magic etc. common fantasy stuff or is this more like real life? Also how dark can the story be? I'm usually a fan of very grey characters and some complicated stuff.

Normal fantasy, consider the village is generally peaceful, polite to wandering magi, a bit far off for orcs but they cross paths every so often, the village men are seasoned fighters, many are retired but can be called upon to defend the village. Ps. I'd like to think the village blacksmith is a bit special, a guy (or gal) who can forge above average weapons imbued with a little earth magic perhaps.
