I recently acquired an Albion Decurio bare blade from a fellow forumite who had contacted me about finishing the blade into a sword for him. The blade came from Albion with heavy rust pitting and deep machine marks, as well as a good bit of deep scratches and marring on the base of the fuller. After discussing the cost of turning said blade into a complete functional sword I ended up purchasing the blade to restore on my own time at my own cost. Initially i thought it would be alot of work, but that is a huge under statement. I found out very quickly that it's easier to make a new sword from scratch than it is to fix someone else's mistakes, especially on a Pre heat treated blade. SO many many hours, and a good bit of money spent on various tools to try and breath life into this blade...I think I've reached a point that I'm happy with it. I ground and polished out all of the machine marks, scratches, and rust pitting, and sharpened the blade to probably one of my sharpest edges yet besides my atrim warsword, and i blackened the fullers before polishing the blade up to 400 grit. The blade has a very organic hand made look to it thatIi overall find pleasing. What did impress me was how effortless it was to make good cuts with the sword just swinging it by its tang without even having a hilt yet. I spoke to fellow forumite Lemuel the Lemmer about ideas for hilt designs for this sword and we decided that a migration era hilt would be aesthetically pleasing, somewhat historically feasible, and lightweight enough to keep the sword properly balanced. I'm not going to be posting a big build along thread on this project, but I figured I would share my experience with the Albion moat blade so that anyone thinking about purchasing one knows what they are getting themselves into. This particular blade was a diamond in the rough in that the heat treat was flawless and there was no permanent damage. But man was it hard to get it aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Machine marks can be very difficult to get rid of, especially when they are in a fuller.
The Blade Specs are as Follows..
