Hey does anyone know of a reputable armorer that works in steel up to 14 guage plate? I was waiting for my credit card to arrive so I could order one from Medieval Collectables but the one I wanted they no longer stock. DAMNATION!!!! That was the only one I really liked. Anyway my price range for a cuirass is up to $1500. Thanks in advance for any leads fellas. this is the one i was looking at (the gothic one for Functional Cuirass and Harness) www.medievalcollectibles.com/Functional_Body_Armour.aspx

These guys are pretty good. www.armstreet.com/Based out of the Ukraine (shipping might be a bit of a bear, so bear with them) but they are also on ebay as myarmstreet. I was ready to buy a full set of Gothic plate armor from them but the deal fell through on my end (financial BS) Still , they were totally cool and great to deal with. If you want something customized they will completely work with you to get it right (at least they did when I was speccing out that suit).

For that price, I would contact Jeffrey Hedgecock at Historic Enterprises, Jeff Wasson, Patrick Thaden, or Robert MacPherson. Explain to them exactly what you are looking for, and they should be able to do a custom job in that price-range.
Failing those, I would check with Windrose, White Mountain (Adam Berry), and Icefalcon.

Hey thanks guys....some good leads there. Centurion, yeah ive looked at armstreet before and considered some of their helmets...i wasnt too keen on their Gothic cuirass though....but hey!!! My personal favorites are back! www.steel-mastery.comThese guys are great! check out some of their Exclusive Armor. You may have seen my set of spaulders with the etching on the shoulders and biceps..? They're from these guys and are top notch and they are a pleasure to deal with. I had some payment issues on my end and they were very helpful. My armor even came with a fancy personalized hand written note....very cool people. anyway, im still gonna browse through some of these sites again. I already have 5 helmets but armstreet has another one i like...grrrr...its hard to restrain myself! Man i was just going through steel mastery's SCA stuff.....you can choose thickness of steel, rivets, color of leather straps, etching, brass strips, decorative plating.....its atoss up between the cuirass with tassets, or with the skirt. I like the skirt 'cause the breast plate is segmented....add some etching on it and it'd be pretty wicked looking. www.steel-mastery.com/index.php?&model=product_detail&category_id=21&parent_id=17&product_id=69www.steel-mastery.com/index.php?&model=product_detail&category_id=21&parent_id=17&product_id=68

I will say that several people have mentioned that Steel Mastery is decently behind on their orders, and email communication is falling off. These are the same people who have previously ordered.
The main guy was sick, and they had a huge order that took longer than expected.
Remember, YMMV and Caveat Emptor.

YMMV and Caveat Emptor? What is this?
Well that is sad to hear. Even considering my payment issues, my order did take quite a while but I'll say that their poduct was worth the wait. Hopefully they'll sort things out. Even so I will still be ordering from them again, until, fate forbid, I have a poor experience.

YMMV is "Your Mileage May Vary" and Caveat Emptor is buyer beware.
However, I will say that if your limit is 1500 for the breastplate alone, then I would definitely go with what Oswyn says. For the price you're willing to spend, you could even go for spring steel. 1/4 the weight, with much more resilience. No denting like mild steel.
Even better would be going to the Armour Archive. I'm around there quite a bit now, and it's a great resource for armour. The guys there will be able to help you out with anything.

BTW, here is one thread about Steel Mastery. People are starting to get back into contact, and things are shipping (according to email). forums.armourarchive.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=78586&view=nextIf you go there, and search Steel Mastery in the Classifieds, you can see people's reactions to current situations. But seriously, the only real advantage they represent is in price. All of the others, if willing to take on a custom order, could produce something equal to or far superior to what you are looking at from them. Personally, if I had your budget, I would go with someone who I KNOW would deliver. For that money, you need some assurances.

Thanks for the armor archive tips.... i'd never heard of it but i think i'll start popping in there. DI, yeah I agree, spring steel armor would be my top choice. Anyway, ive got a few months to look around since I'll be moving out of this damned city and there's no point in ordering anything 'till i'm settled wherever I end up. Thanks again for the leads....keep 'em coming.
