I'll just leave this here
Sorry guys. Didn't think I'd ever say it, but that Power Ranger video is a bit too hardcore, hahaha. Pervasive bad language that goes beyond the allowed limits of the rules. -Adrian Jordan.

I just found the link and watched this with the sound now. I have to say that while I was never a Van Der Beek fan when he was a teeny idol on Dawson's Creek, I have since grown to like him, largely because he doesn't seem to take himself too seriously. This was an enjoyable little watch, but I wonder what kind of trouble it will cause with the real Power Rangers.

I'm so confused about how to feel about this... SO confused. Like... They're all dead. Was that the whole thing or just a preview?

I think that was it. My take on it is that it was an unofficial piece done as kind of a reverential spoof/homage to the rangers, but I can't see it being more than that.

It seems this was a bootleg short to see "what if"... will it become an actual movie? Most probably not. You can read more about it on the CNet link

Jason David Frank actually has a commentary about it.

Just saw this video and wow, awesome. Never was a fan of Power Rangers until now. This would be an amazing full length movie, but I doubt it will be made. The effects were spectacular and the story great.
Makes me think how many other cheesy old kids shows could use a reboot treatment like this.

I didn't like it. They're the Power Rangers. They can't just die. Drift apart and lead separate lives but end up coming back together to fight a "galactic evil" or something is ok. Being dead is not.

I was a fan of the original show because it was on when I was young. I can't watch it now because it's bad and ruins how I remember it to be. Although, the first couple movies they released were pretty good.

Makes me think how many other cheesy old kids shows could use a reboot treatment like this. Thundercats got a reboot a few years ago that was a fair bit grimmer than the old 80s version; couldn't tell you exactly how much, because I've never been able to find more than 3-4 episodes from a decent source. Sadly, it apparently didn't do that well, so it never made it past a single season. As for the video, it wasn't bad. It had some pretty decent visual effects and an interesting plot, but it just wasn't Power Rangers. And I'm not saying that because Power Rangers and "cheesy camp" are inseparable; beyond showing the suits and the zords in a few shots, this really could have been any sci-fi summer blockbuster. Hell, it could have even been something out of the Halo universe, if you swapped out the costumes for suits of MJOLNIR powered armor. Now, that said, I watched Power Rangers fairly regularly up until about S.P.D. (11th of 17 current series) and characters were occasionally swapped out during the new seasons and, beginning with Lost Galaxy, new seasons had entirely different casts, so you could make the swaps due to a character being killed or even maimed quite easily rather than just handing down a legacy for (as I remember it) no real reason. You could keep the same character rotation, storyline progression, etc., just making everything a bit more realistic.
