Get the Hanwei/Tinker Viking. That's my visceral response. And it is the best sword for the money.

The H/T Viking is a very nice sword, but the grip is a little on the small side (rewrapping it is a good project though), and the pommel can be a b!tch on your wrist using a regular gripping style. I'm not too familiar with Euro swords since I'm mostly into JSA, but after dry handling a customized Crusader Monk H/T Viking a few times (sold it here on the forum about a month ago), it felt really good in hand (except for the small grip and pommel) - good blade presence and a really solid feel to it.

The blade on the H/T Viking is really nice. I personally was not to wild about the fittings which just struck me as too "modern" in the way they looked and were constructed. Not a fan of the grip either. The grip was too thin as LG already mentioned and a bit too long. I like my Viking swords to have short grips as was typical of the historical ones. Overall though its a really nice well handling sword.

A second rate Viking sword is still better than a first rate any other sword. Hey, look at my picture and name, what do you expect me to say.

Normally I wouldn't suggest a kat, but since you don't have one yet
