I've been looking at some jian, and so far the TFW jian and Sinosword's jian have stood out to me the most. I especially like the fact that Sinosword's jian has a rayskin handle and a Differential Hardened T10 blade. Any thought on either of the two swords would be much appreciated, as well as other jian that are similarly priced but higher quality. Thanks!

A note about Chinese "T10"
This is not a steel comparable to US T10. Instead, it is whatever scrap metal they have lying around that they can't identify as 1040, 1050, 1060, or 1095.
They charge more for it because people will pay more for it thinking that it's the same as American T10. Chinese steels are not rated the same as American and the 10-- series are only reliable because too many people test them to verify. Or used to, at any rate.
Sinosword confirmed this to me when I bought from them 2 years ago and Ronin Katana shared it as a warning/informative to their customers at about the same time.

That said, Tamahagane and Twistcore both result in new-smelted steel. They do not test to determine what it would be rated as. Mine has held up to everything I've thrown it at (of course, I don't try to chop trees, pallets, or steel with it).

mrstabby: Been thinking the same - but the person that set up the page might not be there anymore and old code gets messy when not maintained. Might be a "repair subscriptions, destroy function X, repair X, destroy Y" situation by now - would mean a total overhaul. Nov 18, 2024 7:29:27 GMT
