The tang construction of this sword is very concerning to me... and I can see no good reason why it should be done this way. A bit of a bummer for sure. :P

I can't say that this review has changed my opinion of this line in any way. But it was a good review from a very trustworthy source. Thanks, Avery, for doing it.
I think your idea of turning it into an arming sword is stellar.

Very welcome Aaron, and thanks to everyone else for the compliments, much 'ppreciated. I think Chris may be planning on having future runs peened to avoid the possibility of this happening in the future. As for the idea of an arming sword, already got the ball rolling; shortened the the tang and peened on the pommel using a friends cutting torch. now I just have to mount the scales, shape the handle and do the wrap. Forge is out of coal ATM, and I cant sit still so I need a project anyway. I'll post pics when it's done.

Thank you for the review Avery, I was looking into getting the triple fuller one also but after seeing your review I think I'll stay away from it until they fix the issue with the tangs. I hope Sonny gets a triple fuller on his new line up coming up

I have a feeling that if another sword brand did this, it would be met with harsher criticism

Why would another brand get harsher criticism. Would the criticism be harsher from the reviewer or the members? It appears to be an unbiased destructive review and members posted their opinions.

The general response from what I have read is that this construction method is unacceptable, and they will not even consider buying or even recommending the sword as a result - not sure you can get harsher than that. Ronin katana also makes katanas (surprise) and from my understanding they have a good rep and are not subject to the same design flaws. As such, they are not subject to the same criticism- perhaps thats what you were referring to?
In short, this review is about the sword, not the company. All companies will have the one product line which stinks. For Rk, this appears to be the exception, But that is only after examining our collective experience experiences from across the board
