Agree with Shootermike. Also, is the 'gadget' EMP hardened? Bet it runs on batteries - how long do wars run, and how much can you depend on supply lines if units get stranded and run low on supplies? What happens if said piece of highly specialised equipment fails/is damaged/is lost and the soldier has to use some other rifle without all the 'smarts'? Too many critical points of failure and dependencies on a basic piece of equipment (a gunsight) to stake your life on, especially if you haven't invested real time to learn the art of marksmanship. If you can't shoot with iron sights, you can't really shoot, technology is no replacement for skill.

Kind of makes me think of the old WWII snipers taking amazing shots with 303 Lee Enfields back in those days...

One of the most important rules in guns is trigger control. This system takes away trigger control. It doesn't go bang when you pull the trigger, it goes bang when it thinks it should. Taking trigger control away from the shooter is a fundamentally bad thing, IMO. Teach people good technique and trigger jerk is a non-issue. It's a gimmick and I don't want a computer controlling my gun!

I can see this beening use by some law maker as a reason to ban modern sporting rifle (assault rifle is a selective fire rifle) cause you could put that scope on there and your a sniper. Just like the handgun wrist brace, 5.7×28mm or any rilfe round that can be used in a hand gun or anything things else you put on a gun. You can carry a gun openly in some states but few you could carry your sword openly, why??? cause some people think my sword is worst than a sig p226

I'm still saving up for a good thermal scope. Man, my wallet can't keep up with technology.

At $7000 to $8000 per rifle it's pricier than me going out and paying full MSRP for a similar rifle + maybe $1200 to $2500 in optic(s) for example so I would hope the smart gun would survive an IED, environmental effects or the wheels of a truck. It seems like it would most likely survive the rain/lake/mud/dog at the least. Really interesting stuff Edited: I have a Marlin lever action rifle that shots 45/70 rounds, I wonder how hilarious it would look with all the smart gun fire control equipment on there... /guilty pleasure .........been looking for one of them for 2 months now,....is it stainless?

Unless they make "intelligent " bullets I don't see that on the battlefield. And this I don't see happening soon. That thing is falling in the same category of those who where logging on a site, shoot a deer and next day they we're receiving what they've shot at. Kind of scary knowing that "others" can have it and you don't though.
