Hello. I recently got a Brazilian sabre, and talked briefly about it in the new acquisitions thread (as well as throwing out a lot of Brazilian jokes - the wax, not the people). However, I did have a more in-depth question. The sabre in question has some sort of bronze streaking pattern on the guard. I saw this in the pictures, but I assumed it was reflections from the local environment. However, these streaks are actually on the guard itself. Now, they look nice, but I am very curious what causes this effect. I have not seen any other examples on oldswords with this pattern, but that could be the quality or angle of the pictures. Any help or info would be appreciated

Quite striking. Almost like wood grain. One wonders if it was deliberate.

I hope so. The guard is completely smooth with no signs of it being from corrosion or damage.

I seem to recall a finishing technique like that being used for some statuary.
