Hello.
I have imported CS swords to Canada before, but I specifically had them blunted by KoA. Curiously, KoA declared them as blunted on the customs forms, and it appears that someone at the border actually opened the package to verify this (must have been very confused, since KoA kept the "Cold Steel - Worlds Sharpest Knives" labels on the swords).
Now, I am looking to buy another CS sword, this time from e-bay. Since it isn't from KoA, I will not have the ability to request that the sword be blunted. As such, it will have to ship sharp. This brings me to my overall question: what are the rules for importing sharp, reproduction swords? Are there any additional fees? Is there a risk that it will be rejected?
Now, I have also imported a sharpened Henry V to Canada. However, that was a private sale through SBG, and I forgot what was declared on customs. Will a commercial sale through e-bay be treated the same way? Especially if they declare it as sharpened?
Thanks
- Alex

I gotten three swords shipped from the US, one from KoA and two from VA, all sharps. There was a bit of a delay at customs with each, but they all came through with no problems(albeit with additional duties on them). I don't see why buying it from ebay should be any different. There aren't any restrictions on importing sharp swords (as long as they are not an illegal type of sword, such as cane swords). You might have to pay tax on it before they will give the package to you (13% of its value), but that doesn't come from it being sharp.

I've ordered TONS of sharp swords and knives from all over and had them shipped to me in Canada - there is NO reason to need them blunted and no law stopping you from buying sharp stuff. Did you want blunt swords, or did you have them sharpened after getting them?

Did you want blunt swords, or did you have them sharpened after getting them? I wanted them blunt, and will likely blunt any sharpened swords which I recieve in the future. I just did not know if there would be trouble, or if I would have to pay extra or something at the border cause its sharp :P Especially since I would be blunting it once it got here. Thanks everyone for the info. Much appreciated

Whew! I thought maybe you had it blunted just because you thought sharps would not be allowed over the border.
Have you checked out Reliks? They are in Ontario and sometimes with the savings on not having to exchange to us money and cheaper shipping, they can be cheaper for us Canadians than koa.

It's a shame they don't have anywhere close to as much variety as KoA, also they tend to be very slow to restock.

I was also a bit put off by the fact that DSA charges us USD and shipping thats no cheaper than from KoA - about $45 for a normal sword. I have had swords shipped domestically before and its around half that.

Do you still have to pay tax if its a sent as a gift?
What about personal sale? Do you still have to declare the cost and pay taxes?

I think gifts go through tax free. I do not think there is an option for personal sale, so it would get taxed like normal. Most often they just slap on a 13% tax based off of the declared value and pass it through. Never had any issues with them challenging the declared value on anything. I mean, frankly, its not like the customs person is likely to know the difference between an albion sword and a deepeeka SLO.
