The Brazilian sabre mimics the British Cav P1885 pretty much. The square pipeback appears to be a Johdpur problem. Guess somebody was shown photos of a pipeback and thought they looked square... I knew it looked familiar. What is it with the Universal/WEI/Deepeeka foundries and their inability to make a historically accurate sword? It's almost like they thought "well, the originals were absurdly nose heavy, so we can't ruin the repro that way... I know! Let's make the pipe back square! That should do it!"

Nice find! I like that emblem on the basket. Good sturdy blade by the looks of it and a Prussian looking scabbard. Curious whether it was Solingen made. It has A.E.C as the makers mark (A.E.C stamped in a triangular pattern). I think its more similar to the 1899 cavalry pattern - especially since Brazil did employ models of the 1899, as shown here in previous listing which I missed out on thanks to GSP's geographical limitations >:D. The 32 inch blade does suggest that it is downsized quite a bit, so who knows what it will be like. aronk - same thing with the Prussian - they made it handle well, but then gave it a square pipe back and smaller grips to compensate. Just can't win -___- at least they did a good job with the Princess of Wales sword. However, that one is impossible to get your hands on, so again you can't win.

I got the CS ANXI sabre today. I will do a full review sometime in the future with proper measurements, but here is my initial impression: The blade itself seems lively enough - its a bit slower than Dave Kelly's 1852 prussian sabre, but not by much. Again, I am not an expert in French swords, but it seems reasonable enough. Can maneuver while giving enough confidence to cut. It may not be accurate, but it feels light enough that it *could* be different from the Universal Sword offering The Scabbard is okay - built solidly enough. However, the drag is comically over-sized, and I feel like the whole thing itself is a bit overbuilt. Moreover, the langets do not seem to hold the scabbard at all, and do not appear to be designed to have any function whatsoever. The biggest turn-off is the handle. Its well built, but as expected for an India piece, it is very much too small. I have small hands - the review of the CS 1852 mentioned that it has cramped grip, but I find its perfectly reasonable - being able to use an open-handed grip even with gloves on. However, even with my small hands I find the ANXI to be too cramped - an open-handed grip is barely possible with bare hands. With gloves, you pretty much have to hold it in a hammer grip. The shape of the grip is okay, with plenty of back support. The problem stems form the fact that the guard and the pommel meet a bit too far forwards, restricting how much room is available at the bottom of the guard. Its not a huge deal for me (I can go without gloves), but people with larger hands may object.

I like the hatchet point on that one. Looks vicious.
If you are getting a CS, I would recommend the 1904 (unless you have small hands, in which case the Prussian 1852 is just fine). The 1904 is mediocre, but at least you know exactly what to expect, and will not be disappointed.

I had the Universal Dragoon and had to send it back. Bend blade. Than ordered the Empire version. So handled them both. World of difference. The U. Dragoon does not want to be handled. It is not a sword. The Empire, though not 100%, handles much, much better.

I've handled the real thing, so I'll have something of a basis for comparison. I've always loved the look of Napoleonic sabres. Simple yet elegant.

The sabre is here! I'll have to go pick it up at the post office tomorrow morning, as I will not be home when the mail is delivered. I'll post my thoughts and photos in a separate thread.
