As the title says, I am considering a Brandenburg for my wife as a costume piece but I won't purchase a wall hanger so it has to be well functional. Any one have one and would like to discuss it's merits or lack thereof ?

I do not have one, but this being Windlass I am quite certain it will be allright to use. I have a couple of rapiers from them and they are safe. Whether they are historical, that is another question. Most blades are too flexible, too short and too thin as compaired to originals. The only one that comes closer to an original piece is the Hanwei Taza. They are for the most part build with the movie audience in mind. Very light and fencible, really not rapiers at all. That said, the Brandenburg is a looker and I am sure your Lady will like it and be quite safe to use it too. Whether you will like it, when she comes after you with her rapier, because you forgot to take out the trash, AGAIN, is another matter.

I own one, and have been very happy with it. Its a good stiff blade, and the basket and grip assembly on mine is very nicely done with nicely done wire inlay around the grip.
I have seen other more expensive rapiers done in the same style, and this blade easily beats them. Its not A&A standards, but its a great value for the money, and looks very nice to boot.
I can recommend this one, and the Musketeer rapier as good blades. The Descheaux is a whippy noodle of a blade, avoid it.
