I'm wondering what this bad boy is. It seems to meet my criteria and love for two handed swords. It looks like these might have been a common peasant sword as I see lots of photos of them when I image search Persian sword. It looks very utilitarian and there's lots of photos of lower class people holding them to. I just want a name for it.

Some discussion here: www.vikingsword.com/vb/showthread.php?t=19425These seem to be fairly rare. What do you search for to find lots of photos of these (and lots of photos of lower class people holding them)? There are a bunch of somewhat similar Indian weapons: the bhuj, and various Coorg and Malabar cleavers/choppers/knives/axes.

Thanks man, I just searched persian sword and persian short sword respectively. Though the examples I was seeing were also of lower quality, no gold etchings and such.

Like an axe, I think. They're quite light, I am told, but that still describes plenty of battle-axes.

Never seen one of those before! Interesting. Although I have to say, that particular blade is anything but utilitarian - looking at the decorations, it was clearly not meant for use and has never been used.
Apart from the blade shape, it reminds me of Swedish swordstaffs more than anything else...
