I'm in an office by myself, on a plant with nobody else on site. And I just busted out laughing at that...

Ooohh! That Arts-Feng fuchi/kashira....shiny! (magpies love shiny! :-) I want that set for my $200 juyo grade katana! RinC
(twice as gaudy at half the price of competitors....what's to criticize....doesn't everyone prefer flashy over subdued? Hey Josh, get a load of my new suit! Flash pink with furred collar and flashing L.E.D.s! Got it from a pimp. Who needs Brooks Brothers stuff. Goes with my Elton John sunglasses)

Yes it is much better. Though I don't like Huawei's reverse hazuya polish.
The katana1980 "high quality" sword really just looks like they put flashier/gaudier fittings on it. With bright silver saya, which is not very traditional. Looking nothing like what samurai would carry. Now if they did a black saya with some silver foiling or gold leaf...I have seen that before on swords that be fitting for daiymo or high ranking retainers.
I must admit however, that I don't think katana1980's goal was to make many good higher, or even mid-level, katana. They seem to be best at just making a serviceable $200 katana that will appeal to the masses and less educated japanese sword enthusiasts. Still, there are better places to buy $200 katana. Like Huawei.
And as for Huawei. Two things I would like to see out of them, if they are feasible. One is for them to start making more swords with nicer Iron fittings. Less flashy more traditional. Another would be to see if they could forge some blades that look a little more like Kamakura era katana. Not tachi really, but late Kamakura era katana/uchigatana style. I don't expect them to perfectly resemble the nihonto from that period just hopefully be something that has the feel and spirit of those swords. Right now the make mostly what seem to resemble Edo period blades. Which is understandable since that is the period most people probably think of when they think of samurai Japan.

200% agreed, Uchiha. (Even concerning the hazuya polish - I already told elsewhere on this forum that I dislike it, Jacky's "tamashigeri polish" is far better). I also think that if we were more numerous to order non-Edo geometries to Jacky, he will finally offer more "exotic" blades.

Jacky will do a Tameshigiri Polish on any sword he sells if "requested", I asked him myself on another sword I looked at. Huawei do seem very accommodating to small modifications on pre-made swords, well that's what I found dealing with them on my first purchase.

They seem very open to any kind of request, which is fortunate for us, swords enthusiasts! Would be nice to have Jacky of Huawei on this forum! But maybe he's a bit too busy for that...
