Wow! This looks outstanding indeed! Did you do the line pattern with a hot knife? The light - dark tone contrast is just right for me too. Very well done sir. Karma incoming, if I can find out how it works.
Cheers

Thanks. I tooled the lines after dampening the leather and used a straight edge.

I must say karma points are the most missed feature from the old forum. This just screams "+K".
Excellent work Bryan, clean and very well executed.

Nice job. I've been thinking about making one for my Windlass Lowlander Claymore and Tinker Bastard. How did you make the core? From what I've seen online you pretty much take two separate 2x4s and carve out the blade slots, glue them together and sand down the outer core. Is this how you did it or do you have another technique?

I make mine the sandwich method, three pieces of poplar board, the middle piece cut out to match the contour of the blade. I then line the inside with wool felt which cushions the blade as well as takes care of having to carve the slats to adjust for distal taper. When that is complete it's all glued together and I end up with a long thick rectangle. That is then cut to match the swords profile and then I use a plane to thin down the outer slats and round the edges, sand it etc...then I put on the leather. I can get it pretty thin if I want too. This Tyrolean was thinned in a distal taper fashion with the guard area left pretty thick since the blade at that point is rather thick.
Findlithui has excellent tutorials available, just do a search as he has posted them many times. I use his methodm for leather but I think his wood core method is of the routed variety which is different.
Thanks for the comments.

Awesome job, the Tyrolean might be my favorite Albion at the moment and with a scabbard like this... just stunning.
