I can't comment on that particular product; but I have experience with a similar one. First, let me be open about the fact that I'm not a fan of Cold Steel products...it's a long standing prejudice that I've had. With that stated, I did buy two of their machetes a while back - strictly for the purpose of forcing them into my hand. Both came so dull as to be considered useless. (I'm not just saying that, I tried them out on a few things - the best they could do was break something, IF I hit it hard enough.) Once sharpened, I put them both to use. One - the CS Latin Machete continued to disappoint. It didn't function well as a general use machete; nor did it accel as a chopper...in fact the edge rolled badly the first day of use. I wasted my time fixing it because it happened again the next time I took it out. What a piece of crap. Luckily, that isn't the one you are asking about. I included that only as a matter of reference and perspective. The other machete I purchased that day was the CS Magnum Kukri Machete. Once that was sharpened I put that to extensive use, as well. Like the CS Latin Machete, it sucked at general machete chores...however, it was a great chopper. I didn't use it much on deadfall; but I had a bunch of weed trees to remove, and the Magnum Kukri became one of my favorite tools for that job*. Up to around 2.5 inches thick would typically take one swing. I didn't use it on much in the 3-4 inch thickness range; but it handled them pretty easily, as well. I don't know how well the Royal compares to the Magnum; so I can't help with that decision...but the CS Magnum Kukri Machete is worth a look. (And you might find the longer blade of benefit in your post-apocalyptic endeavors)
*(I felt that my Ontario HD machete was a better chopper, overall; but there were times that the 22" blade was less desirable, and I have mixed feelings about the D-guard.)

I don't have that CS Kukuri either, but I do have a CS Kopis Machete, and I love it. Yes it will need sharpened out of the box, but its a tough beast. And its about the same balance...

I'm looking at adding one of these to my collection as my "zombie slayer" Cheap and cheerful but the terminology "Royal Kukri Machete" is a bit off putting, more so that these need sharpening before use, while I know there is a greater cost involved you may consider these - yhst-7333098713883.stores.yahoo.net/sirupati.htmlRemember the lengths quoted are "overall" length

As someone who hates Cold Steel with a bit of a passion, lemme just second aussie-rabbit and say if you've got a kukri itch, Cold Steel won't scratch it. Himalayan Imports is, so I hear, good stuff; but their prices are out of my reach. I like Khukuri House, myself. Since HI's Sirupate line was already linked, here's KH's: www.thekhukurihouse.com/catalog/products.php?id=3230fc2012See also the tremendous selection of other varieties they also have. All better than Cold Steel, and about the price of this "machete" or less. I do have an old Cold Steel LTC Kukri, bought years ago as a second for half price, and I hate it. It's horrible. I can't even get rid of it, nobody else wants it.

I have one of the 15" sirupates, and love it. There are many more I'd like to get, too. This one has a bit of a reputation: www.thekhukurihouse.com/catalog/product.php?id=313533fd3d10Word of warning, though, shipping from Nepal is pretty steep. Bought a buddy of mine one of KH's kothimoras for his wedding present, and paid something like $45-50 for shipping. Got to me within two weeks, though, so no complaints.

I tried a long time a go to get you to sell your LTC to me, so don't say no like it. If it is one of the old carbon V one's I really like them for brush clearing.

I don't think it's Carbon V, though. I'll have to dig it up and see if it's marked... It's still a bit scuffed from the few cuts I tried on cardboard back when I first got it, that black finish doesn't let things go. Hell, if you still want it (which I doubt) I'll throw it in the mail.

Have two on them they are my main cleaning tools when I want to do it by arm power. They preform great for me. Had 3 of them laid one down and some took it. Don't have any touble with the black finish cuts through wood and vines fine for me. Make's a ok digging tool too. Use these if I think I will mess up the finish on one of my better kukris. Wish I had got more of them for my compound when they were closing them out. I'll put a proper edge on it and will sale right thought a 2in limb. I have a lot of cold steel products.

I checked mine and it's a Carbon V. Bit scuffed up and a small chip out toward the tip, if you're wanting a third shoot me a PM and I'll have it on its way ASAP. I just don't like it. Can't put a finger on why, it's just not what I wanted it to be.

I have the big HI 19" bladed version, super chopper goes through anything ! the 15" blade is handier and is the one I would take in the car when going bush, when it comes to "can cut tree!" the 19" wins every time

thanks for the idea's and suggestions guys ,looks like the cold steel machete's out after looking at all the Nepalese beauties at the Khukuri house ,I've narrowed it down to a couple of blades either www.thekhukurihouse.com/catalog/product.php?id=313635f87 or www.thekhukurihouse.com/catalog/product.php?id=323035fc2012 ,I'm sort of leaning towards the Defender at the moment. I hadn't considered a real Khukri due to the Gurkha military aspect of the knife, (I'm ex Army and I know what those knives mean to the Ghurka's when they earn them ,been there my self after various training courses and the feeling you get when you pass and it may sound silly but I thought didn't earn it dont use it!) ,reading up on the history of the Khukri on the website and it's wide spread use in Nepal means as long as i dont buy a issue military version I'm ok ,silly I know but *shrug*

I'm quite fond of my CS royal kukri. It is most definitely a machete, not a kukri, and if you have machete expectations and goals for it, you'll be quite happy. Especially at $25 or so. Here's my quick review/demo video:
