i've been looking into getting a tai chi sword or a dao (broadsword) im going with the hanwei damascus tai chi if i get that one, but if i go with the bradswords, i really want to get some good ones. i saw these www.martialartsmart.net/45-67cs30.htmldoes anybody know if dragon well is any good? what type of steel is best for battle? they make "combat" steel swords but that always makes me think they mean for competition. i want a REAL sword.

From an industry insider:
"dragon well forge" aka Long Quan town located in Zhejiang province, China was known for its smiths who made excellent blades in antiquity.
Reality Check.
21st century Long Quan town is now the world's sword factory. With many factories they are pushing out everything from wallhangers, knives, and wushu swords. Don't buy into the hype. There are a couple good manufacturers, but they won't be found on martial arts mart.

Yup, Garrett knows. I wouldn't even use one of these swords in day-to-day class anymore after having the 6-inch tip of a "wushu broadsword" snap off as I stabbed...wait for it...AIR. Research, ponder, purchase. Get the most for your hard-earned dollar - a $35 tai chi sword might seem like a good deal now, but when you're digging broken shards out of your school's carpet (or worse) you'll see, as always, you get what you pay for - if you're well informed. With regards to that link, blacksword - "combat steel" Not so much.

Blacksword: I would wait until Garrettc is up and running and get one of his, have you seen the "any interest" thread in the general area of the forum? His jian is the best I have seen so far from any company in our price range. He also has plans to release other weapons, like the dao.
