I've been told this was the name of the sword, and then I was told by someone else that it wasn't a Paul Chen. "Hanwei (Paul Chen) Practical XL Katana Samurai Sword, Item number SH60000XPF" It was purchased many years ago online. that's all the info I have at the moment. Would love it if some "experts" can chime in here. I'm at a total loss. Google offers no help, can't find it anywhere! I put all the pics on the link below. I hope you can see them ok. Sword?
Your help is much appreciated!

I don't recognize it at all but it looks similar to an ""United Cutlery" style sword. I say this because of the full tang, exposed tang, and the three pins. Maybe someone else knows better.

Whatever that is, it's not Hanwei/Paul Chen/CAS. I have a set of swords very similar to this one that I got years ago, before I knew better. This sword is purely decorative, and only a vague fashioning facsimile of a proper sword. Last I checked average retail for the three-piece set was around $250, the katana by itself would probably run $70-80. I hope you didn't spend more than this, and I hope it wasn't sold to you as functional.

It is an older stainless steel ninjato. I bought one just like from weaponmasters.com about 12 years ago, when I knew nothing about actual katana. This was my first attempt at buying a steel sword. I had been taught with bokken and was not supposed to be touching a real shinken. But mine had the exact same mitsudomoe mon on koiguchi(if i can call it that), the same awful aluminum saya same wood panels riveted to the exposed nakago. One thing I really did like about that sword was it would move very fast. Practicing the movie ninja tricks with it was fun. But as you have already been told it is not functional. Meaning you should not cut with it. It will break and it wouldn't be a good cutter in any case because of the awful secondary bevel on it. The blade probably does cost about $70, though it isn't worth that since you can get bare bones functional katana for that price. Here is the actual Paul Chen Shinobi NinjatoThis one is quite functional and if you like Ninjato I would go with this one. It is inexpensive yet of good quality.

Hi! Thanks so much for your response. I am pretty pissed off actually.... This sword was purchased by my husband off the website japananeseswords4samurai.com. It was purchased many years ago, never made it to its destination and now we're stuck with it. My husband specifically ordered the Paul Chen Katana XL Practical and this is what they sent. We paid over $200 for it!
I'm talking to the company now and since it's been many years, they are washing their hands clean. Steve Dibble is the person who handled the sale and is now saying there's nothing he can do.
I guess I would like to use this forum to warn you against this company. Bunch of CROOKS!

I am surprised that it took you & your husband many years to realize that this sword was not the sword you ordered? I mean it's just totally different sword, right? They could have sent the wrong sword to you but as you didn't notify them within a reasonable timeframe they are not responsible anymore. You should have contacted them immidiately after receiving a wrong sword, and they would have surely fixed it... This is the item you have, as was noted earlier it's by United Cutlery: web.archive.org/web/20051025101400/http://www.japaneseswords4samurai.com/ucsftkc.htm

You mentioned that it "never made it to its destination"... could you elaborate on that? It might help us understand what happened better before reserving judgement.

Yup, it's a stainless steel slo and sells for as little as $30 on ebay. But a 2 year gap between buying and advising the seller you did not get what was ordered is just too far out to expect the seller to do anything about it unfortunately. You've passed any reasonable expectation to rectify the sale.
