I just bought a museum collection glamdring. The battle ready one made with spring steel and all that. Is the edge supposed to be dull? Mine came completely dull. Would appreciate input since I blew like 500 dollars on this sword ha. I don't mind it being dull if that's how they made it, but if someone ruined the value of this sword by grinding it down with a file I'd be pissed.

I'm not familiar with the piece; but I would be surprised if it had an edge. When I googled it, I found the entries on Amazon - one review said it wouldn't be considered sharp, another said it was extremely sharp. I'm inclined to disregard the latter, unless he was referring to the tip - that would be "pointy sharp"

<incorrect link removed> According to LG - the edge is flat. HIM I believe.

Actually, from my understanding, they all came out with a dull edge. Here's a review I did on one a while back: /thread/34728 plus a more in depth review done by jimmiroquai: /thread/31580One more thing - check the blade/guard alignment. Some of the early Museum Collection models had a twist in their blades, which was one of the reasons why the good ones are hard to find (the manufacturer stopped producing them when they discovered the flaw). And thanks hhmoore for your vote of confidence.

Sorry about that link, it was supposed to be your review. I didn't even notice that it was to something on another site.

Sorry I'm a bit of a sword newb still but what should I be looking for exactly when checking the blade/guard alignment? I did notice the sword bent ever so slight at the tip from being a straight line but literally by about a mm.

The problem was that United Cutlery went bankrupt during the production of the Museum Collection Glamdring swords... because they were running out of money and the fact that the heat treat company wasn't used to high carbon steel blades, some of the swords came out warped, then still assembled and sold to the public. UC acknowledged the problem, but were so much in debt that they couldn't offer replacements or fix the blades, so they sold off their rights to BudK. According to what I've read, about 1/3 to 1/2 of the Museum Collection Glamdring swords were "lost" during the production run... these are the ones that are being sold on Amazon, eBay, and other places - they're the real deal, but some of them have the warped blades. Hold the sword in hand, look at the blade along its cutting edge - is it warped along the edge? Is it misaligned with the guard? Also, hold it parallel to the floor and look at the flat part of the blade - does it "turn" to one side along its length? If it does, the blade is warped. Does that mean the sword is useless? Nope, you can still fix it by putting it in a wood jig and gently bending the sword true. You can do that yourself, or you can ask someone knowledgeable to do it for you. Hopefully, you got one (like mine) that doesn't have a warped blade. I can't provide any citations/links at the moment, but with some online research, you can find the info I'm talking about. Hope that helps.

here's a link (different sword though) that shows what I mean about the blade being warped: Warped by heat treat

Hi thanks for the responses guys. I think mine was very slightly warped. Nothing so drastic as the images shown but it was there nonetheless. Honestly it doesn't bother me so much since even my Kris cutlery viking sword was a tiny bit warped. I guess it's something that can be hard to deal with at times. I might straighten it out when I get the chance.
