I was just checking the Jin Shi Swords website and found that the domain had expired on Nov. 13th. Does anybody know if they went out of business?

They are still around but not taking orders currently. Check Swordsage's YouTube channel for more information: Martial Arts Myths: The Origins of the Shaolin Le…:

I think the last update on their website was on July of 2013, stating that they weren't taking any new orders.

I'm pretty sure Jin Shi is gone. They have no website, their domain is up for sale. They don't seem to have a working email address. Is anybody in contact with Garrett Chan?

They've been doing a slow fade for some time now. Looks like they finally gave up the ghost. I'm just very glad I have one of their swords.

What I don't understand is why they went under. I mean, they didn't seem to be lacking for customers. In fact, to all accounts, they had more business then they could handle. I was on a waiting list for a production Qing jian that they were supposed to be coming out with.

It's just like they vanished.
On my side I was waiting for a second replacement, as my first han jian was having a gap in the handle resulting in blade moving ans squeeking sounds, I just told him and he said keep it I send another one. the replacement sword was very well assembled though the blade was having a twist and a slight S shape, some rust, and a flawed point. I sent pictures to Garrett, and he said sorry this happened and thank you for this information, I will send you another one. (!) The third never came though, and they don't answer my mails either (I'm not harassing them, just tried to make contact and have some news)
So my theory is maybe they had too much problems with the swords as if the forge with which they were making business was not able to meet Jin Shi's standards, and after replacing a lot of swords, they where not making any money, and closed the shop.
Still, they should have told. Alien abduction?
+EDIT+
As for my swords, I sold the well assembleded / flawed blade to a friend for 150$ and I am in the process of making a new handle for the nice blade. (I do it slighly elliptical so to have a feel of blade alignment)

[br I only wish I order his premium Da Doa when it was briefly offered around $500.Garrett told me the leather scabbard and straps cost as much as the sword. That set up probably rare and one of a kind

Hi, All,
I have long been impressed with Jin Shi's quality. After years of reading about Jin Shi, I was able to acquire a Tang dao, which I've enjoyed immensely.
I unfortunately have to sell it (for different reasons, not the least of which the funding of a custom blade offset by getting married a month ago). Originally posted it back in March, but couldn't push the sale because of wedding prep. I'm not cutting back the price by $50 to $450. I'm going to re-post this in the Classified section.
The blade is forged of Sanmei differential steel. The scabbard is included. Never used for cutting.
We will miss companies like Jin Shi. Great to have that level of quality control...
Blade length: 30" (really 29.5" from tip to top of "habaki")
Total length (blade and hilt) approx. 41 3/4"
Handle length: approx. 11"
Weight: approx 2.4 pounds on a home scale
