Hi guys,
looking for a durable cutter in the 300+ area. Might go for a used Raptor, but still open for alternatives. I'd actually prefer some lighter blade, but durability still is main target. Pretty much still a beginner so misalignment cuts will happen. Anyone of you handled some Munetoshi blades, especially their TH 1075 spring steel ones? Some Swordnarmory stuff seems quite a good deal... :?:
Thx!

Here's johnwalters' video review and cutting test video on the Munetoshi 1075. /thread/42505I've owned a few lower-end Munetoshi and a Jubei. I didn't put them against real hard cutting but they were good for what I needed. For an inexpensive Raptor get a hold of member LGMartialArts. www.sword-forum.com/memberlist.php?mode=viewprofile&u=17822He had some for sale at real good prices a little while ago. He may still have one.

I don't have a 1075, but do own a Munetoshi Tessen made out of T10 - it's one of my favorite cutters, although I did redo the saya and had the tsukamaki redone by Fred Lohman. You can check out my review of it by clicking the link below my signature. And Just like Adrian, I would also recommend watching John Walter's vids As for the Raptors, I still have a couple of new Nambokucho and a Shinogi Zukuri katanas. PM me for more info.

I have had a few Munetoshi blades (Katsu, Kouken, Mokko, Tessen, Yuukyo, and a Hira) and I have found them to be a very solid value. Keeping in mind that these are all on the less expensive side, the polish was nice, the blades were sharp, the mount was sturdy, and the fittings are a bit different than other stuff out there. The Muntoshi Katsu was one of my favorite prices. The kissaki was nice, the hamon was interesting, and the fittings had a touch of class to them. drive.google.com/folderview?id= ... sp=sharing I also like the feel and look of the Tessen, but it was a bit too much green. Just a personal preference thing. Lovely sword in every other way though.

Exactly why I decided to redo mine - too green, and the saya paint job wasn't the best. Still, it is an all around nice sword.

The 1075 performance cutter is a good tough, well built sword.Great saya on the one I tested for SnA.I have a couple aesthetic dislikes, but they have nothing to do with performance. There is a 10% discount code available til end of the month.I think we put it in the vid review. The sword offers a different geometry than the Raptors and cuts hard bamboo very easily.Keep in mind the performance in the name refers to hard target cutting and not mats, tho Im sure it would be a very good mat cutter as well. I just recieved the new 1075 Hira today for testing. Its not a razor performance cutter, but its not a hard target sword either.Ill be testing it on mats. Im not sure what they are sending next. But Ive owned many and still own several Munetoshi swords and they have always been a very good value and usually offer items abit different from most others. Most members know my thoughts on the Raptors.Imo,the toughest production katana blades on the market.I will also recommend LG if you decide on a Raptor.Hes a standup guy.

Thanks for the input, guys. Looking forward for the Hira testing.
Since weight is an issue (I'm not exactly huge), I've always been worried a bit about handling a Raptor. According to Hanwei even an Unokubi Raptor (I'm actually quite fond of Unokubi katanas) weighs in at about 1225g (plus I'm looking at $400+ used). Compared to lets say the Munetoshi Viper Unokubi, which seems to be quite a quick cutter (YT vids by Atte) and comes at 885g and $300-, that's a bit of a gap. Or am I comparing apples and oranges here? Dunno. Probably...

It is too bad that KoA doesn't have a Unokobi Raptor because they sell their Raptors for cheap compared to others. $400 is too much brand new. Oh you may want to think about getting one of the Batto series from Samurai Workshop if you want a light sword. It is a TH 9260 and it weighs under 1000g i believe. Not to be used for the heaviest of cutting but it will cut most targets.
