Hello fellow forumites. I was recently asked by our friend Josh to test/review a sword for him and Mr.Dave Lorez. The Feilong Sword Higo katana. This sword is available here in the states thru Cottontail Customs and is imo,a great deal. Not only is the blade a good quality but the fittings are also.I really like this sword. So would I. Even their high end swords don't seem to sport a geometric yokote. www.samurai-sword-shop.com/zhui- ... 11-ctg.htm Despite that, the model you show us is still very interesting - I like its fittings, and it seems to be an effective and pleasant cutter! The 3 models presented by Josh on his CottontailCustom website are all good looking and affordable. The Feilong Forge beaters... the next no-nonsense workhorse to have? (BTW : If someone knows where to get a second hand Tsuyoi katana, I'm interested - this model is already back ordered here in Europe...)

Nice review and excellent cutting! I'll echo what everyone else has said... it is great to watch you cut and to hear your thoughts on this blade.
I really like your method for testing a blade's construction and durability. Your intentionally flawed cuts are well thought out and your analysis of the blades ability to withstand the poor cuts will be invaluable to anyone considering purchasing one of these blades. ( +1 karma)

You're right, Aikidoka. John's reviews are well thought and complete. And more educating than a simple destructive test. Karma point for John!

Nice detailed review. Some impressive cuts there! That double bo-hi is attractive, and sexy polish. I have to echo what others have said and remark on the great camera work. Definately getting better. Nice accompanying cutting vid, thanks for taking the time to provide this detailed review.

If I can stop myself from buying swords off eBay and the SBG classifieds, this will be my next purchase.

John, thanks so much for giving your feedback on the Higo katana. I decided to start selling these swords after I had reviewed the Iwa and was so impressed with the line. I had no intention of getting into the sword retail business, and I'm still not really, but I liked them so much I figured I'd be happy to help others get a good dependable katana and these just weren't as well known in the states. I know that while I can provide a good review concerning aesthetics, construction and quality, I obviously know very little about how a katana should handle when cutting with it so I thought I'd turn to those with much more experience in this regard. I really enjoyed your cutting session, as I always do, so thanks again for taking the time to give it a try and give us your thoughts Josh ps - Thank you Skane for editing these awesome videos

That looks like a really fun cutter. It took a real beating too. I'd love to have one.

Thanks for providing the sword for review and testing Josh! Nice to see the swords (Higo and Iwa Shobu) being tested on bamboo and multi-mat targets. Blade, fittings, mounting, saya, and construction quality on the Feilong swords look outstanding. A couple great-looking, tough, optimized cutters for the price point

Impressive performance John. Very helpful your review. As a matter of fact after watching it several times I decided to buy the higo and that's exactly what I did. I specifically asked Dave if the Higo he was selling was the same with the one you have tested. Keep up with the nice review job.
