Could see that slashing a trail or skinning something big, nice all rounder. - mind you I don't like this trend towards "fire scale" finish, it looks "lazy" - either polish or for a dull finish sandblast the blade, IMHO

The finish is as desired. I prefer "unfinished", "rough", or "used" to "lazy". It's not a trend for me. I've made them like this for 30+ years. I make them as I like them. If they sell, it's an added plus.

Personally, I love the finish. It matches well with the materials used and gives a more practical look. Some of my favorite knives still bear the same black scale they came out of the forge with, only the bevels are polished at all. This particular knife strikes me slightly less than some of your other stuff, but it's still very nice. If it fell into my lap, I wouldn't throw it away.

I love the finish, personally. I agree that it doesn't work across the board, but it really fits perfectly with Mike's work. I think a smooth satin or mirror/semi-mirror finish wouldn't go quite as well.

Exactly. What appeals to me most with these knives is the dull, rugged look they have. Nothing polished, nothing fancy, but great lines and intimidating yet efficient shapes and sizes. To much polish would just make it look like some cheap display piece and detract from the overall presentation.
Or so I think, anyway.

There is no doubting the lines, materials or production, just personal preference on my part, plus I would not polish but rather sand-blast for the "rugged good look"
