Hello all , I am a collector of all types of military items , I have a small number of swords and will always try to purchase them when I come across them and if I believe they are at a reasonable price Thought I would join the forum as I always seem to have a number of questions whenever I get one. I would love to one day get a nice WW1 era sword to a Officer of The Norfolk Regiment.
My recent purchase is a Cavalry Sword by Hamburger Rogers and Co London just about visible on the scabbard is 2 CLY which I believe to be 2nd City Of London Yeomanry, sorry to say the scabbard and hilt are in a poor condition , the sword I have been told was found in a marsh somewhere around the Romford area. I have a question Is there any reason the scabbard should have signs of red paint on it ? I don't want to start to tidy the scabbard up and remove the paint if the paint represents something, happy to say the blade is in a very reasonable condition ...... I love it

Hello Tim:
Welcome to the board. Norfolk UK or Norfolk VA?
While I don't want to dissuade you from this little good natured company. The online shrine for the English edged weapon is Sword Forum International. No kiddin; all the wise men on are on SFI as far as that subject is concerned.
Won't comment on the red paint without a photo; it sounds out of place...but...
Cheers
