I just received my SBG custom katana with the folded blade option. I was wondering what the best method would be for bringing out the prominence of the folds as they are very faint on my blade and more prominent in one side over the other. I figured it needs some polishing but I'm reluctant to start tinkering on my new (and nice) blade. I have 8,000 grit and 12,000 grit water stones as well as several polishing compounds i use with a leather strop.
On a side note, i was under the impression that the sbg custom katana blades had niku while this blade has no perceivable niku. I was wondering if there were more differences between the folded option and the standard option besides just the folding, specifically the niku.
Thank you

Sounds like the etching is kind of weak, which is good for those of us who prefer subtle hada, but not so good for those who want theirs to pop. Here is a good tutorial on etching the blade yourself. /thread/30374
