I have a question for the SBG community: the threaded tang and pommel on my AOV High Elvish King Sword are stripped - how should I go about fixing them? You can see some specs/pictures here: /post/574450/threadThe tang could be re-threaded using a slightly smaller die, but the threads in the cast bronze pommel are mostly gone, so I was thinking of drilling it all out and maybe soldering in a hex nut or maybe using a Heli-coil? Any recomendations?

Looks like a helicoil may be the way to go, you will retain the strength that way.

Findlithui, where are you? I bet he would have some good ideas for this...

Thanks everyone for the advice. I think I'm going to use Findlithui's method - sounds like a very strong way to fix this problem. Since I'm working on multiple projects at the moment (plus of course my day job), it'll probably be a few weeks before I post updated pictures of the final "fix".

You could also drill through, key and peen. Would have to modify the tang end a bit but shouldn't be too much work.

I was actually thinking of that, but after sitting on the idea for a while, don't figure it'll look as clean as just fixing the threads.
Findlithui, actually, I do have a new drill press I bought for a project that I haven't started on yet. I just need to get a drill press vice and it should be a breeze to drill out the pommel (at least I hope so  ).

A self tapping heli-coil may be an alternative since your pommel is bronze/brass - ... lf-tapping

You know I've got these very parts for sale :-) It's not bronze or brass of course, they're pot metal.

Thanks for the heads up... the only thing stopping me from buying yours is the shipping from AU to the US
