First off, all the credit goes to Vincent Dolan for the blades design. I asked for his permission to use his designs for making virtual 3D models and he accepted. Very kind of him! Those 3D models are only made for my personal modelling skill development and are not intended to be used in any commercial way. Since Vincent's drawings don't contain cross section views, I do have to extrapolate for say the thickness off the blade, the guard etc. So, the first design I chose is The Numenorean: There's a first look at the 3D model. I'll be doing realistic renderings later on...

Oh, very nice. I can't wait to see it finished! By the way, if you need any help on a design's intended cross-sections, you're welcome to shoot me a pm and we can figure them out together.

Oooooh a fellow 3D modeler! It's quite clear you're a lot more experienced than I am. Do you keep a portfolio of your work anywhere? You can see my stuff here: sketchfab.com/lemuelthelemur/folders

Thanks everyone for your kind words! LemuelTheLemur- In fact this is my first attempt at modeling a sword. I'm not used to objects modeling. I worked 8 years as an architectural modeler, making virtual building models and doing realistic renderings. Modeling a building with an architectural modeling sofware is easier for me than modeling a complex object. I took a look at your work and I find it very well done. I don't see me as being any better than you are. Can you tell me how you're making the files for visualizing the objects? It's like a quicktime VR object right?

I figured you knew what you were doing since you're using professional software To be honest, european swords probably isn't that far off from architecture models, lots of straight lines and nice proportions. I've only been doing 3d models for a month or so, so I'm definitely still a novice. I upload my models to sketchfab as .stl files, you should be able to export an object as that...

Thank you LemuelTheLemur, I didn't knew about Sketchfab, but now I know and I think it's a great tool for showing to others our 3D models! So I registered and figured out how it worked. I tried the exporter but unfortunately it did not work... So I just exported a .3DS file (I could have exported in several other formats...) and some textures with it. Of course texturing in Sketchfab is quite limited but it gives a good idea of the project for previewing purposes. So this is what I could come up with: skfb.ly/B7IIEDIT: Here is a rendered image
