Have been busy with building the German Bastard, the one from the Wallace Collection. Windlass guard and pommel and Mr. Dave Kelly's English Twohander for the blade. Today I finished the grip. This time I did everything from sight, no templates, nothing. Just wood, file, leather and away you go. Reason: Perfect Imperfection. Look at the 1519 High Renaissance grave stone in the back. That is the feel I am after with this sword. Hope I nailed it. Just like the WC Bastard the grip is 19,5 cm long. Width is 3,5 cm. I had to do the top rib, just under the pommel, because that Windlass pommel was not round. This way I covered that up. Here is the original: Next week I hope to do the blade. Shortened it allready to 95,5 cm. Cheers.

Looks like you "nailed" it indeed!

Thanks guys. I like grip work. Wood, leather, some cord, glue and a lot of patience + coffee + cigarettes. Sunday morning, a good chair and strickt temper control. Amazing the amount of abuse wet leather will take. Somehow this little job is soothing. Total fixation: ,, Honey, I am leaving you''. ,,Eh?'' ,, Yeah, yeah, sure thing''. Did you see the glue baby?'' Cheers.

ha, good call Ulahn.....that grip looks great, phenomenal....and yes, spouses or kids have no idea or understand that when wet leather and glue are being worked while wet...there is no other focus, can't be.

Ah, yes. Sometimes this puts some humility into the female brain: use the printer button please. Our galaxy. There are 125 billion of them, I read somewhere. Now. Who was pissed off about that broken nail again? I have this as my desktop wallpaper. Just to remind ME. Cheers.

That is the point where women and kids come in handy. With them in the house there should be some flower or oatmeal around in the kitchen. Cook some and put it through a sieve and presto: Glue! Hey, I found something useful about these creatures!

The grip looks great, spot on for this type of sword and the colour works well.

Thanks Deepbluedave.
About the colour: I honestly do not know yet. I blued the fittings yesterday, so maybe I have to darken the grip a little bit. Time will tell I guess.
Cheers.
