There's a couple of furniture designs I want to make for the HT line. I'm designing the fittings to be hex nut based, and to be compatible with the factory grip (i.e you shouldn't need to make a new grip to fit the furniture). The idea is to create a 3D model, have it 3D printed, molded and then cast in steel. UPDATE: 3D designs here: sketchfab.com/lemuelthelemur/foldersTo that end, I'm going to need some help. if you own an HT sword (Bastard, Longsword, EMSH, Great Sword) could you be so kind as to share the following measurements (in mm if possible)? Pommel height: Pommel weight: Grip end to tang end (see diagram): Tang end height (see diagram): Tang end width (see diagram): Tang thickness: Tang width at guard: Hex nut height and diameter: Please share your measurements even if someone else has also posted one for the sword you own, I'd like to know how much fluxuation in measurements there is from sword to sword. Also let me know if you like or don't like the designs, or what kind of pommel/guard combination you'd rather have.

damn, have a bastard sword and a micrometer sitting here, but i had to cut a bit of the threaded section off the tang, and shave the wood grip down a bit to make the pommel key onto the tang properly, so my measurements would probably not help u much

Well, I'd still like to know the tang thickness, width at the guard, and hex nut dimensions and pommel height

I'll try and get some measurements up for you from mine in the next couple of days. Are you planning on selling these fittings? I think I'm in love with the second one from the left with the black colored grip.

This is good news. One of the reasons I haven't gotten an H/T sword is because the guards and pommels are so plain. The other reason, is the many reports of the swords being dulled by ill-fit scabbards.

Yeah, that's the vibe I got from your post, just wanted to be sure so I don't needlessly get my hopes up

yup, I've been a long admirer of the DIY community here. I've always wanted to participate but a lack of a workspace has kept me from trying out wood and leather work. Out of curiousity would people here rather have pommels that can be peened, or just the regular hex nut variety for convenience?

attempt #2 unfullered bastard pommel is 45.5mm long (used ruler) tang width @ shoulder 20.29 mm about halfway down 13.79 mm right before "roll off" to thread 11.37 mm tang thickness inside crossguard 6.16 mm halfway 5.54 mm just before roll off 4.82 mm threaded rod is 5.62 mm hex nut is 8.83 mm x 18.86 mm my pommel has a small spring washer that sits under the nut crossguard is a tight fit thicknesswise (judging by marks on the flat of the tang) and needs to be tapped into place i personally would prefer hex nut components... its fairly easy to just epoxy everything permanently in place once you have the sword how you like it (have done this with my longsword). i guess other people like to be able to dismantle them. peening would be cool if you could make the other components able to be wedged in place

Personally, I like the hex nut construction for convenience.

That's what I have experienced as well. I have never managed to find a hex nut that is as slim as the stock one. They are almost always bigger, or at least thicker.

Ok, a lot to chew on here. For the first run anyway, I just want to make fittings that are immediately interchangable with the stock fittings, with only sone light filing. There definitely seems to be a lot of non-DIY collectors who aren't interested in the HT line because the options for changing the furniture are very limited without some DIY skill. Measurements for hex nut dimensions are very appreciated. I wish I had access to 20-30 real tangs i had hoped more people would be willing to share tang information (thanks Pokey!) But I guess I'll need to make do with the data I have. I'm guessing in general the fault tolerance for the slot dimensions are +-1mm. Noted on the guard slot dimensions.

If it's not too late I can measure the tang of my bastard sword tomorrow.
