Ok, so. I'm a sword collector. And i'm decorating my new office in Manhattan. I'd like my centerpiece to be a decent looking rapier, primarily due to the generally sleek and stylish appearance, but also because i'm just starting to learn rapier fencing. I'm also on a bit of a budget. So, after perusing KOA and finding limited options (I love KOA, but...), I went to Ebay. I know, I know, please, hold the pitchforks and torches back for a moment. I should stress that i'm not looking for something amazingly functional. Just shiny. Though, if you're primarily using a blade for thrusting, is a poor tang as much of an issue as it is with a slashing blade, like a katana? Hmm... Anyway, I found this. www.ebay.com/itm/Fencing-Medieva ... 27e97ccb19 Now, I know that 40 dollars will give you exactly what you pay for. But, I looked at the seller. Everydaysavings. Never heard of them, but 99.7 percent positive feedback is pretty good. So i'm considering purchasing this. The thing is, I can't find a manufacturer. What does that mean, that it's a no-name back of the factory production line blade? Or, better, can anyone share any tips, experiences, etc with this seller, or this blade? I'm interested in seeing if it's worth the price or even less, or if it's a great deal or, failing that, where i'd be best looking for essentially a wallhanger rapier.

I don't recognize it.
It's not clear to me from your post whether you intend to put this sword to use, or just hang it on the wall. It it's the latter, no harm done. But note that it's made of stainless steel which means that it should never be used for anything.
I'd say it's worth $40.00, but no more than that.

well if you're just buying something to look good then that might be the ticket. This is pretty cheap even for an SLO, I wouldn't even swing it around if I were you. I will say aesthetically, the pommel looks a little oddly shaped, and the complex hilt components are too rectangular.

Welllll.... Primarily a wallhanger is what i'm looking for. Though it'd be more of a deskmounter, really. Though i'd like to have the option of using it to defend my home from the occasional plastic bottle raid. I'm a bit confused by the stainless steel comment though. My first purchase was a Mushai katana that cost, I think, 6o-ish from KOA, and it's stainless steel...was listed as battle-ready and so far it's been working great against said bottle raids. No rattle or anything. Edit: Would something like this: www.ebay.com/itm/Medieval-Renais ... 2a420dc0e7 Be more stable? It's less...chunky. And while i'm sure this is a bad thing to say, is a thinner tang a horrible thing for a thinner trusting blade, as opposed to a slashing blade? Nobody wants a rat tail of course, but...

It says stainless it means it's a decoration. From six feet away no one will know the dif, unless they are collectors... You work in an office where with sufficient grade they allow weaponlike decorations in your work space? I the answer isn't "most definitely" I would do it. ( Even when I was a company commander in the army an invited military policeman told me that regretably I would have to bolt the swords to the wall or remove them. But, he also said he really didn't "see" them. )

It's my office, I can decorate it however I want within the law And NY, much like NJ, law is basically "Don't run down the street swinging it around and you'll be fine." Is spring steel the same as stainless?

Spring steel is a carbon steel that has been given a "spring" temper, that is, tempered to be more flexible than for hardness.

No, spring steel is generally good stuff. I'd question whether or not that sword is actually spring steel, though, at that price. I've seen some vendors slap the label "440J High-carbon stainless spring steel" on their products.
I think I've seen the first rapier offered in a BudK catalogue, back when they were still sending me those bloody things...

The blade thickness is 3.25mm. It will wobble as a spagheti.

This one is definitely a wall hanger and ugly too. Run away quickly. DOUBLE CHECK THE LAW!!!!!!try wearing a sword through Manhattan and see what really happens, then ask your insurance carrier about having weapons openly displayed in your office. You may get a nasty surprise from their answer.
YMMV,Kenny

Yes, like I said. The law gets spotty about wearing and carrying openly. Insurance isn't a huge issue, they weren't crazy about it when I asked.
