Does anyone ever strop their swords as part of the sharpening process?
I always strop all of my knives unless I want some tooth on them, but I never considered stropping a sword.
Sword Stropping: good or bad idea?
Also, can you touch up your edge with a butcher's steel after light cutting?

I've seen several members post about using a strop to keep an edge up. Sounds like they have pretty good success.

stropping IMO is fine but a honing steel is not because it may cause micro chipping of the edge, but that applies more so to katana edges. Dunno about medieval style swords. From what I've seen sandpaper, water stones, and belt sanders as well as leather strops have very good results.

Ok, half way down the page at "part two" strop sticks will give you that extra polish viewtopic.php?f=19&t=13285avoid the butchers steel, much too coarse for sword edges.
