Hello
One of the most aesthetically pleasing types of swords for me has always been basket-hilts, however I'm unexperienced when it comes to early modern swords in general, so I have a few questions about them.
How good are the reproductions made by hanwei? Any sub 350$ alternatives? Any good sources on the usage of basket-hilted weapons other than George Silver?

Hanwei's Back sword and Cromwell are good basket hilted swords for their price.....even better when they were cheaper on KOA before the forge fire.
There is later stuff that teaches usage on basket hilted swords. But pretty much you can use a basket with any single hand sword style. With my training basket I do messer and I also done Talhoffer and Ringeck sword and buckler. But you will have problems with the 1:33 and Ringeck sword and buckler because you use the buckler to protect the hand, and with a basket you don't need the buckler to protect the hand as much because that's what the baskets for. So the basket will get in the way when doing then the way you are supposed to, so you have to modify were you have the buckler a bit.
And with holding my basket hilted sword in saber grip and can do rapier plays with it.

Thanks for the reply, good ideas, I'm more familiar with those manuals and I think I can work it out somehow. From what I read in other sources it seems that the general opinion is on the side of the backswords rather than the broadswords, any reason to it?
