Irongate, www.rautaportti.fi/?language=en is the only shop I know of to re issue older Windlass models. Apart from Lawrence Ordinance that is and shipping from Australia does not come cheap. That said, Irongate is not cheap either, but to me the only option to acquire some oldies. I am after the Rheinfelden, but it was sold out. So I asked them whether they are going to order it again and my understanding is that they will. It should be for sale again in a couple of months, depending on the situation at Windlass. During our conversation the manager asked me which old models I liked and I came up with this one. See here: viewtopic.php?f=12&t=22069And to my joy they seem to be willing to go after it. When I stated to be a member of this forum, he asked me to enquire which models members wanted badly enough to see them for sale again. My impression is that they are serious about this but cautious, because for them the investment in a minimum order at Windlass is no chickenfeed, apart from the hassle. So my question to you is: Which model would you like to see up for sale again and willing to pay a little extra for, since this outfit is not KOA and out there in Finland. I would like to add that I have no business relationship with Irongate, so please do not see this as an undercover sales operation. I would also like to suggest to them this beauty, the Brass hilt Cut and Thrust. Cheers.

I'd love to see the Brass hilt Cut and thrust, or the Rheinfelden. I'd actually never seen the Rheinfelden before, that's quite a nice looking windlass...

I'm curious where you found my Windlass brass hilt picture? I took that pic after I wrapped the handle with black leather pig skin. My friend as the sword now.

Can they actually order the old models in? Lawrance ordnance has some, but my understanding is that these are old stock, ordered before they were discontinued.

Razor: found the picture on Google Images. I hope you do not mind me using it? It was the only picture I could find.
TheNewDavout: Yes, it looks nice. If you have some other Windlass oldie in mind, just place a picture of it here.
Scott: It seems that Windlass has an archive of some kind, with the specs of all their models, the molds for the hilt parts, everything. So, when business is slow, some enterprising vendors can order limited re runs of old models. Most vendors play by the book and have standard stock, but Irongate makes use of this possibillity, if Windlass is willing. I think the minimum amount is 12 per order. Quite a risk for a small operation like Irongate. The old models sold at Irongate are brand new and could be better than before. The tempering process at Windlass seems better than 5-6 years ago. See the English Two Hand Sword. I bought the old version from Mr. Kelly. He says that the old one has a wippy blade, but his new exemplar is much better in that regard. But even if they are not better bladed, I think the old models to be much nicer and the new models quite bland really. To all of you, Cheers.

Another suggestion. This one made by Mr. Dave Kelly. The Windlas Pappenheimer. Pulled from the catalogue around 2007. The blade could be a bit more stiff and 36 inches above the guard would be nice, but as is, it is still servicable and very good looking. Images used with permission from Mr. Kelly. Cheers.

Yes, you have my permission to use the pic.
I got the Brass hilt cut & thrust sword in 2001, that was before Windlass went all whippy. It had a stiff blade but is tip heavy and no distal tapper that I can remember. So for better handling, add a distal tapper to it and it should handle a little bit better.

You will have to ask KOA for the why and why not. I cannot give answers for them. But, yes, this is a viable option. Even you could do it. You will have to take a minimum number of swords though and Windlass calls the shots and from what I hear here and there, they are not so easy to deal with. Selling like hotcakes? I do not think so. The meager response to this post should tell you something to that effect. As I said before, most vendors go for the mainstream of this niche market. That is safe and they have problems enough as it is. There are only two vendors, to my knowledge, that are willing to take the extra risk and stick their necks out that little bit further. We are talking a very small percentage of buyers in a very small market here. Most buyers want the latest, newest of, well, anything. That is what they are trained for to ,,want''.
Cheers.

Well, we from Europe might be interested in some old windlass models, but to get enough european collectors interested in the same model might be difficult. I would be interested in several old two hander models, and of course, "The Schwert".

Ulahn, you were right. I stopped by lawrance ordnance this afternoon and asked about the swords. They do order the older discontinued swords. Didn't think to ask if they can order ones they don't keep in stock though.
