Greetings, I'm a new collector and thought to partake in the dialogue on these forums. I am from Germany.
I have been a gamer all of my life - I went from pen and paper roleplaying games and boardgames to tabletop games, finally historical wargaming. This is where my interest comes from.
During my historical wargaming days, I tended to research the military and cultural background of my favoured factions (mainly antiquity). I also went into detail when researching weaponry and equipment. This is where my (little) knowledge comes from.
Over time, my hobbies gave way to job and family matters. I just finished a period of establishing a new career path, am changing job positions and in the process of moving from a very small room to a large appartement. This gives me both the ressources as well as the space to reestablish a hobby. This is where my motivation comes from.
As many gamers do I owned a couple of swords - a wallhanger stainless steel Katana, which I'm hiding away in shame, a stainless steel but extremely sturdy Ninjato, which is adorning the collection of a friend and a rapier-like abomination, as well as a stainless steel Musket Bayonet, both mercifully lost.
Starting from scratch I did my research and am planning to add to my new appartement, step by step.
I used to practice Tai Chi and want to regain my skills. A childhood friend of mine is a trainer for Tai Chi, including sword and saber forms. So to both begin my new collection as well as give me something to aim for, I started with a Practical Tai Chi Sword from Hanwei.
It's a big difference to hold a well balanced sword for once.
And given that this is Germany, I also went with a wooden trainer from Blitzsport for when I'm outside my appartement...
I am delighted to experience what I read about: the wooden trainer, which weighs less, feels heavier due to it's COG being farther away from the hilt...
So much for a start and my best regards, Sebastian
