I have purchased a hauberk, gambeson, helm all from GDFB, and I also have a coif I got as a gift which I suspect is from them, and I have had nothing but good experience. I admire the Coppergate helm and if I had the money I would pick it up in a heartbeat - I suspect you will not be unhappy if you do decide to purchase it.

It's funny you post now, I actually ordered it on Saturday. Thanks for making me more confident in my purchase!
It will be my first helm purchase, but I'll post my thoughts here as there doesn't seem to be much info out there on it.
GDFB has some really nice looking Saxon, Viking, and Vendel helmets.
May I ask which hauberk of there's you got? I'm in the market for one of those as well.

Well... the helmet is very nice looking! However, I was not prepared for how massive it is. I think I have a roughly average sized head and well.... I understand that its probably designed to be worn over a padded cap and a coif perhaps, andI could be wearing it wrong (don't know much about armor yet), but sheesh.

One more creepy photo. Here it is again, this time with a thick beanie underneath it, fits way better. Would be less ridiculous with a chainmail coif, for sure. The cheek plates are still a bit excessive, but I suppose they provide some more neck protection.

Apologies it took so long. Here is the hauberk I got: www.kultofathena.com/product.asp?item=AB2496&name=Chain+Mail+Hauberk+-+Butted+-+Zinc+Coated+-+Mild+Steel+48%27%27+ChestBy now(6+ months of wearing it in stage combat and Dagorhir), all the problems associated with butted mail have started to show - namely, there are holes in the armpits. That's about it, other than that I am very happy with my purchase. If you can afford it and want to get some chainmail, you absolutely should get riveted - butted can lose rings a lot, and while it's good to get good at making chainmail, I don't know any reason why you would get butted over riveted aside from cost(and that's a good reason not to get riveted, as it can cost as much as four times what butted does). Also, you mustn't forget gambesons if you buy yourself a hauberk. They are much more important than people think and sometimes even esoteric, as a surprisingly few number of people outside reenactment and HEMA societies know even what they are. Knock yourself out(except not literally, as you have a helm ): www.kultofathena.com/gambesons.asp

Cool, thanks for the response! I think I'm going to go shell out the cash for one of their riveted hauberks eventually, for the reasons you stated.
