Hi this is just a brief review of the Ronin Katana number 11 entry level series as supplied by Oriental Weaponry UK.
Price
£138.00 including delivery. This is to a UK address.
Service.
Could not ask for more, next day delivery and well packed.
Packaging.
Came in a black sword bag in its own cardboard box that was wrapped in corrugated cardboard. No damage at all.
Katana.
Blade.
The blade out of the box was well oiled and had no rust or marks, after wiping of all the oil and sawdust from the saya the blade was a bit disappointing, the hamon was very hard to make out and has I purchased the katana mainly for display I was not a happy bunny.
So got to work, and after a 10 minute session with some lemon juice applied to the blade it enhanced the hamon to the point that I would say was on par with a much more expensive blade and I am very please with the appearance as seen in the photos.
Sharpness.
The blade came sharp, that is sharp enough to cut paper with ease and this was all the along the blade from the kissaki to the habaki.
Tsuka.
Real ray skin bound very tightly with a brown ito, no complaints.
Saya.
High gloss dark brown with sageo to match the tsuka no marks on the saya.
Balance.
I have had a few swords and this is one of the best. The balance is good and the blade with the bo-hi is not too heavy but not too light if that makes sense. When performing a kata the katana stops where you want it to with no undue effort required.
Overall.
For the price I think this is an excellent buy it looks good on the sword stand and feels good in your hands. For some one wanting an entry level katana I don’t think you can go far wrong with this sword.
NB
