Hi we have recently received this sword as a gift & wish to know something about it for example from which period of time does it come, what group of people is it associated with & some history about it. Tourist souvenir sword, Japanese-style. These were being made for tourist sale in Japan in the late 19th century through to the 1930s, and plenty of more modern ones from China. Some of the modern Chinese ones are sold as fake antique Japanese tourist souvenir swords. Blades are usually of poor quality, though some of the old Japanese ones had good blades.
Usually, these are carved bone, and only rarely ivory.
