Hi all, I am restoring something made of 16ga sheet brass, and it has red oxide spots here and there. Hitting it on the power buffer is nice, but the oxide (if I remember correctly) is harder than the brass. So how to remove it? Other than a chisel Thanks! Edit: I'm redoing lamellar, and have a ton of brass plates, but in researching, everyone talks about green oxide, these have dark red...so they may be a bronze, no telling. But polished up they look like yellow brass.

Had some luck with Simichrome and steel wool, but it's tough since it always seems to bloom in hard to reach spots.

I wonder if the aluminum-foil+water-or-vinegar trick would work like it does on rust ??

No telling, but I have some ideas, found a few leads on the web...and I have lots I can test with. Worst case they end up clean but pitted...no big deal, I am just hoping for something fairly easy.
