I'm hoping you guys can help me with locating a functional, carbon steel/spring steel, full tang rapier. No basket or cup hilts, and sharp (not blunted tip).
I'm looking for something preferrably under $200. It's gonna be a gift for someone that knows how to use one.
I've been flying around ebay and digging through the net trying to find something, and although I find quite a few under $200, sometimes the descriptions are lacking as far as what they're made of, if they're in fact functional, or blunted/sharp. I like the Paul Chens, but many are button tip.
I'm hoping some of you might have some experience in having already purchased one (as I've never purchased a rapier before) and could give me insight on either particular swords, or vendors.

I'll second JP's recommendation of Kult of Athena. I've bought several items from them and they are great (as JP also noted, prices can't be beat). Any of the Hanwei rapiers they have should fill the bill nicely. Hanwei/Chen also offer a variety of blades for different purposes (live steel, fencing, etc.), so you could theoretically buy one rapier with multiple blades for various uses, rather than a whole other rapier. The Hanweis use threaded pommels, so it should be a quick and painless swap, too. Now that I think about it, I'm not sure how interchangeable the blades are. It may only be one model that you can do this with. Anybody know and care to enlighten me?
