That's a hell of an axe. Can't wait to see how you finish it up.

That's looking good... I really like the shape of that handle, very flowing.

Thoughts... Is the handle made by you from scratch, or something you adapted to the axe? To my eye it looks like an adaptation of an existing handle - not a problem, consider fully sanding it down and doing a Danish Oil finish, I was very impressed by the one I did. No Color, just a plain finish, though you can get it with tint. Do *EVERYTHING* you plan to do on the head before the final fitting, as its a bear polishing etc afterwards. Make sure you wedge the head on very well, and maybe glue also, just protect the wood from the glue. It's never fun when the head flies off in a random direction.
Awesome work so far! karma incoming

the base haft for this is one i modified the hell out of, to fit. My original idea was to make the haft from a solid block of purpleheart wood from scratch. after destroying a 50$ piece of wood i opted rather than to keep buying expensive wood id only douche up, to modify an existing one for practice, and so i could play with the axe sooner  . i ended up liking it how it is so much i opted to finish modding it as it is. The basic shape is all there, but its not how i want it, im going to be heavily modifying it to fit my needs, and then carvinging viking scrollwork/knotowork in various spots that i find visually appealing. then the whole thing will be sanded smooth again and cleaned up, then stained to the purpleheart reddish brown color i originally wanted, and sealed with birchwood casey rub in tung oil. once everything is done ill do the final wedging, as you said its easier to do any mods before the fact.

Not bad all man! I will make one suggestion; the area right below the eye where you fitted the axe, I'd remove the head and sand all that down nice and smooth. If you don't, the stain will pool there and be darker/uneven. I will generally hammer the head on until I get a wood furl all the way around the bottom of the axe then take the head off and clean/sand it all up. That way, when you do the final fit just a couple of taps on the bottom of the handle will seat the head. Like I said though, just a thought.
