Here's pictures of the finished wak: Etching is a little bit scruffy but I'm just happy it was possible to do with normal vinegar. I don't know what you call that transparent plastic stuff with adhesive surface,(clear contact paper?). However that's what I used as a stencil. I cut the ornaments to plastic stuff and attached it to the blade, then I dipped a paper sheet in vinegar and wrapped it around the blade. I waited over night and in the morning I had a really scruffy etching. I had to touch up the etching quite a bit with a dremel polishing pad bacause the winegar had leaked under the plastic. Not the smartest way to do this, I know. I blame my limited budget. But it worked! "ito" is twisted leather string. It's lightly lacquered and then waxed. Surface of fuchi and kashira is carved with dremel and then painted and lacquered. Tsuba is my old design and has been presented before here on this forum. Menukis and saya adornment are from a Monkey Shoulder whiskey bottle. Sageo is paracord. Saya is bruised in use and I didn't want to loose the "used" feeling but I wanted it to look "finished" at the same time, so I painted the dents with ink and then waxed the surface. Here's another thread where I'm planning the ornaments and where the ito and everything else are still unfinished. There's also more information. Thanks

Thanks jblakey and Novice_Surgery, Here's one close up of the etching where you can see the scruffiness better: I'm going to try and clean it up better but I might end up ruining the etching. Well, I can always re-etch it... Attachments:

Hey you could always use tape to cover the etch design and line up the edge of the tape to the edge of the graphic then anything outside it you can mothers mag away. You probably already thought of this method though : ). It doesnt look too rough to me though I like it as is looks great.
