Scott Rodell has just posted a picture of their new Yanmaodao over on Facebook, it looks fantastic. He says he should have it listed on the site by the end of the week. The Price might be a bit high for some, $895, but it looks more than worth it.
If I hadn't just ordered a Hanwei Beile Dao from KoA, I'd snap this up myself

Nice, it looks like the Dynasty Forge model offered here at SBG several years ago. Only difference is that it has a green rayskin scabbard. Its a very good reproduction of what a Qing Manchu prince would carry. However its too ornate and flashy for practical martial arts training IMHO. I'm not a prince and $895 is way too much for me!

The other difference from the dynasty forge one is that this one has a sanmai blade. Also, ordering from Seven Stars means you're going to get a good one, unlike With Dynasty forge were you might get a good one if your lucky, or you might get one with some serious flaws.
Yeah, 895 is expensive (I don't blame anyone for not going for it for monetary reasons) but a good Yanmaodao is rare today. I mean its this or the Hanwei Beile dao or nothing.

Too ornate for my tastes but I am always happy seeing more functional Chinese swords getting to market.

I'm glad I got my Beile Dao, but I do sort of wish I had waited for him to post the stats on this one, it seems more value for money. THough I agree it is a touch to blingy.

Yeah you're right! The Beile Dao looks like a great cutter though. Also according to the stats the new dao actually has GOLD gilted fittings and a shark skin scabbard! Manchu Prince Dao (Chinese Saber)- Folded Steel Sanmai Blade, Shark Skin Covered Scabbard, Solid Brass Fitting with Gold Gilding! GOLD!Blade Length: 28″ long (71 cm.) Sword Length: 34 3/4″ (88 cm.) Overall Length: 36″ (92 cm.) Sword Weight: 1 lb. 13 oz. (.83 kg.) List Price: $895 I probably wouldn't use this sword for target cutting! How many Manchu princes are out there anyway haha

Dynasty Forge is Huanuo Forge. All of DF swords came from Huanuo. Also all Cold Steel katana and Chinese swords also come from Huanuo Forge.

I know all that. but DF/Huanuo doesn't do a great job of Quality control when they sell their own stuff. CS and Master Rodell inspect everything to make sure what they sell is up to the standards they set (granted, CS has let some less than quality pieces slip through). Thats what I meant. Not that one can't get a good DF sword, one just has to know who to go to to get one, like Kult Of Athena (because they also inspect everything before the send things out)

Thank you Daishikaze for the news about the new Yanmaodao soon to be carried by Seven Stars Trading Company. I agree that finding out which sword venders inspect there merchandise before shipment is a good thing. I did receive and send back some Dynasty Forge/Huanuo lemons from various venders who do not.
