Shield from Skyrim for my Daughter

A couple of nights ago I decided to make my daughter Charlotte a shield she could play with while riding her toy horse - something cooler than the simple foam shield she was using. I had planned to make a very quick made in 5 minutes or less kind of thing. But as it turns out that just didn't work for me....
I started with a 1/8" piece of press board and used the seat of my workshop stool to trace a circle which I then cut out and sanded round. This was going to be all I used for the shield, save for a strip of leather on the back for a handle. Yesterday when I was looking at the shape of the shield and thinking about what Charlotte would really love, I started considering how she's a huge fan of Skyrim (as I've mentioned before). One aspect of the game she enjoys are the load screens, where she can view close ups of various oddities from the game. She's grown quote fond of the Riften guard shield, so I ended up going in that direction for her shield.
I cut another circle then split it into "boards". Then I cut one more circle and cleared out the middle creating a ring to use as the metal reinforcement for the edge. Then did some staining, painting and gluing in various amounts and certain orders, and I had a pretty sweet looking start. The last step was to make a cut out of the crossed swords which I then glued down. Some lacquer over the whole thing and it was all set.
I must say I think this turned out quite well, and it's a pretty good likeness to the game images. Tons of fun to make too. I especially enjoyed the detail painting in the nicks and notches on the steel ring - added a great bit of dimension to the look. The stencil cut of the swords came out better than I expected too.
I don't have a lot of pics as I sort of just added to the build as I went without planning, but here's one after I glued on the outer ring.
A few more taken on my kitchen table. Tomorrow I'll try to get some pics in natural light and with Charlotte using it.
And one of the shield from the game for reference
