Bad news about the MRL Chioggia sword... it seems that MRL has decided to discontinue the line and has sold all of them on their website. There are still a few floating around at KOA, other vendors, and on eBay, but once they're gone from there, they're gone, unless MRL decides to bring it back that is.

That is a terrible shame. There really aren't many XX on the production market, and it's got a favourable review on sword-site (i know, i know, but a review's a review right? ) Was planning on getting the Windlass Sword of Roven but I may just pick this up instead.

I spoke to an MRL rep the other day trying to order one and that's what she told me... it's been discontinued and probably won't be brought back unless there's a ton of demand for it. Too bad - it has a classic shape and does handle well enough.

Bill did the review. You have to read it. He's making a case for swords being much heavier then they historically were, blaming the bias towards lighter and/or better balanced swords on the fitness level of modern swordsman, saying the handshake grip has on evidence to support it, and bashing Albion and Peter Johnson, all in a Windlass sword review. Its comical really. I'm starting to think his major wasn't history at all but preforming arts. www.sword-site.com/thread/13/win ... ord-review I'd not take his opinion for anything. He seems to believe he's a jack of all trades and hits you over the head with his degree before going on to bash current research as nothing more than marketing ploys. His opinions are ill formed, biased, and read like a backyard warrior instead of a seasoned swordsman and researcher. If your planning on buying the sword based on that review I'd look for a second and third opinion.

Yeah, I read that review a while back and was taken aback by his pushing his degree and his research/bashing of other swordsmiths... I definitely agree that people should take that review with a grain of salt.

... I tried to read the review but I was blinded by the shining white light of narcissism in just the first few lines. My screen actually became a blank white screen because it couldn't handle all the self-love that goof has for himself. It must be so great for him to be so awesome. I think you guys should delete the link to it - I don't think we should be giving anyone a reason to find that site

I wouldn't worry. I think he has three members, and two may be him. Its a shame because he does actually make unique weapons and their nicely done. I happen to think he is a talented artist, though my opinion of his work confuses him. I think he doesn't understand how I can separate the artist from their art. I guess he's the John Clements of Smithing?

Oh my God! This from a university graduate who never spend a day fighting war. The HEMA world are full of cops and veterans. People who have humped many miles in 70-80 lbs gear in 120 degree desert heat. But of course they are all sissies compare to Bill.
I won't even go into the idiotic comment on handshake grip versus hammer grip. You shouldn't even hold a hammer using the hammer grip.
