After reading Pinotte1814 ,, Bars and Bowles'' : viewtopic.php?f=12&t=17556I came upon this picture of a saber that looks quite a bit like the Italian one in the essay mentioned above. Am I correct in asuming the picture I found is of an Austrian one? Austrian? Italian: And then I stumbled upon this broadsword: It could be period, then again it could be a 19th C. confection. For me , there is something not quite right here. That crowned ,,Dragon'' could be the symbol of Wales? So, I hope you will give it your best shot. Cheers. Edit: some of the images are a little cropped, again.

1. Style wise this looks like the M1850 Austrian Hussar sabre. This style migrated into the Italian states thru to 1864. It's not a "standard" Austrian sabre as they were exclusively steel hilted. ( Honved or gendarmerie...?) Intials and the bone grip look French or Belgian. A mystery. I'm not well enough read on the period to differentiate in this case. 2. Danes used a Drakonpallask sword in the 1780s. Hilt is correct. One of these was on ebay 3 or so months ago. Asked a swedish colleague about it. Lenticular blades were not used with these Danish swords; blade was fullered. ( 1740 Prussian Guards pallasches used a lenticular blade - Universal/WEI makes a replica. Said there was a 1960s run of these "fakes". Told me to walk away from them.

Thanks Dave. Nr 1 needs further sorting out then. Nr 2: As I said, I had the feeling something was ,,off''. Price asked is Euro 2200. I really hope someone who can spend this kind of play money knows his business and, as you said, walkes. Glad you put me in the right direction, Denmark, although I for now do not see the connection Denmark / Dragon. Although one never knows. I have seen these nice, quiet people turn berserker at the flip of a dime. Must be them Normansk genes. So, a nice weekend job to hunt for it. I kinda like this somewhat outlandish hilt. Thanks again for the info. Cheers.
